Not sure how I originally landed on the Happy Mundane site, but once I did, I couldn’t stop scrolling. The nonstop roll of beautiful images one after another… the mix of all things design, art, music, fashion… I couldn’t get enough of the graphic images and shapes, neon and muted color palettes, and most of all Jonathan Lo’s love of patterns.
I headed over to the About page and read, “Happy Mundane… takes a moment to appreciate some things that get overlooked in the everyday. There’s beauty in your dishsoap.” Ummmm helloooo?? I had to reach out to him. You see, RAD AND HUNGRY is all about pushing design through travel and travel through design. But not just any design – we’re talkin’ daily diet, lo-fi goods that are simple. Simple and AH-MAZ-ING. Classic Bic Cyrstal pens? A pencil sharpener? Goldenrod pencil? We marvel in the mundane because that shit is dope.
I reached out to Jonathan and he was gracious enough to review our STMT Kits, host a giveaway, and he continued to show RAH love. So when we started brainstorming all the cool projects we wanted to tackle, how we wanted to celebrate our 3rd World Tour and 25th STMT Kit, we instantly thought of Jonathan. We wanted to combine forces and create a custom kit that reflects our interpretation of his design aesthetic. His Instagram feed and Pinterest boards are chock full of awesomeness and gave us plenty to work with.
The RAD AND HUNGRY X Happy Mundane Kit is a double whammy of goods. We upped the game from 3 items to 6 – 2 Paper Goods, 2 Writing Instruments, and 2 Mystery Items. Some of our favorite items from past sourcing trips that we are having a HARD HARD time giving away, but they were just too perfect. The collection of hand-selected goods reflect Jonathan’s love of geometric patterns, vibrant colors, an ultra-cool vibe.
Yes, let’s marvel at the mundane. ‘Cause everybody could use some dope shit in their everyday.
