Announcing the RAD AND HUNGRY #12DaysofMakers Contest

We’ve connected with makers all over the world – designers, craftsmen, photographers, screen printers, illustrators. They’ve shared their studios, their product, their love of what they do, how they do.

What we found? Bein’ a maker is f’in HARD. First hand – we get it. The backache, the heartbreak, the daily hustle to create and make. The struggle is REALZ. Why seek out local when anything you could dream up is at the nearest megastore – or sometimes just a click away?

Because local means handwritten notes. It’s the beauty in the imperfections. It’s celebrating the differences in paper clips, notebooks, paper texture. It’s sharin’ beers with new friends on sidewalks, dreamin’ up products and collabs, crossing continents to make shit happen.

Makers know they’re never gonna have it easy. But that’s the trade – makin’ your own shit, on your own terms, creating the differences that make the world a more magical place.

RAD AND HUNGRY wouldn’t be the company we are today without the crazy talented makers we’ve met over the years. We’re celebrating. This December, we’re giving away $500 and an STMT Yearly Subscription to one maker, nominated by RAHstrs. BOOM.

Between December 1 and December 12, we’re askin’ RAHstrs to nominate a maker – whether it’s someone in your community, someone you’ve purchased from, or someone you’ve read about and admire. We’ll select one maker and announce the winner on December 16. In addition to the Yearly Subscription and $500, the winner will also be profiled in our RAD AND HUNGRY Maker Profile series.

How do I nominate a maker?

Between December 1 and December 12, post your nomination on Facebook or Instagram with the following ::

• Tag @radandhungry and use the hashtag #12DaysofMakers – super important, or we won’t find your post!
• 1-3 sentences about the maker.
• A link to the maker’s website, Facebook, or Instagram.

What do you mean by “maker”?

Graphic designers, writers, illustrators, notebook creators, sculptors, letterpress artists, photographers, musicians, painters, doodlers, game makers, chefs, metallurgists… Basically, anyone who makes something. We’re open.

What does the maker need to do to be nominated?

Nothing! If you nominate someone, they’re in the running.

Does the maker have to be in the U.S.?

Major bummer – but yes, due to shipping costs of the Yearly Subscription.

What if I want to nominate a group that creates together?

Totally fine! Just note that the prize is one Yearly Subscription and $500 per nominee (so, not a subscription and $500 per person in the group).

How do I find out who won?

On December 16, we’ll announce the winner on our blog, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

What’re the nitty-gritty details?

Entries must be submitted by 11:59pm Pacific on December 12, 2016. One winner will be selected by RAD AND HUNGRY. Entries that do not include @radandhungry and #12DaysofMakers won’t be considered. Prize is $500 USD and one Yearly Subscription to the Something Mighty Collection (valued at $250 USD, including shipping costs).

Winner must provide contact information (including mailing address) within three days of being notified. If we don’t hear from the selected winner, we’ll choose a runner-up.
