Albania – Snaps from the Low Down Adventure
You know how you fall in love hard when it’s new? Everything’s a first, it’s more intense, it’s amplified. Everything feels so different. I went to Albania with no expectations, knowing next to nothing about the country and its culture. I left Albania crazy mad in love.
It’s getting harder and harder to find countries totally new to me. Hipster culture, Western culture is everywhere, even places where you don’t expect it. Albania is the one place I’ve visited in the last few years where hipsters don’t exist. Like no M'THR F'KIN hipsters! Even the people that try to mimick the style can’t ‘cause they can’t find the right gear – so what they be is authentic. Hipster brands and big global chains aren’t on every block, they haven’t flexed their money and marketing power. It’s a mix of styles and cultures and somehow it all works.
I hope I never lose the feeling I have for Albania and its rich culture. I wanna keep experiencing the small moments that feel BIG, the new flavors that punch, the landscape that never ceases to amaze… I want to go back often and soon, I wanna feed my hunger before time kicks dust on my memories. Because time is funny – it’s often an enemy. Too much of it passes by and memories fade, feelings weaken. You wonder if you really were in love.
Sometimes though – you look back on a photo or revisit a memory and the same intense feelings rush over you. Where can we visit next that is totally foreign to us and have office supplies to hunt down?
